I miss you come live with me

I miss you too. With some fingers crossed, I might actually have some money soon and then maybe I can visit. Sigh.

No one ever suspected a girl.
She was the wicked secret in a bedtime story,
The ‘I’ll tell you when you’re older’.
They hid you from the inevitable,
That you would love her,
That she would pick your bones
Between her teeth, and you would
willingly feed her more.

She is:

The girl clutching at knowledge,
An apple, a pomegranate,
In her bloody claw.

She wears:

A red-lipped smile,
(A dagger, really)
Snarling teeth, and a
Body warm under the skin of her latest prey.

Your big bad wolf.

Remember this:

Stories are histories.
She would, and always will,
Wait at your door in the night,
Blow down your house,
Cut out your heart.

You will let her.

Your howl is a deafening revelation. The mirror on the wall is a lie.

The beast you love is her,
and also you.

iamnounicorn ASKED: Hey Ivory! I see that you're learning Mandarin, and I want to ask for any tips on memorizing the Chinese characters? I'm learning it myself, but I easily forget, so any pointers?

I am probably no better off than you. I learn about 30 a week and maybe 80% of them stick. The rest I have to keep double and triple-checking until they finally sink in. Despite studying for days for my midterm, I still spaced on two simple characters for…whatever reason my brain didn’t retain them.

I do repetition in as many ways as possible. Flashcard practice with a friend, lessons on Memrise, filling out my hanzi grid homework completely instead of the ‘do each character 5 times’ minimum. My teacher said decomposing characters down to their radicals works well — like through Yellow Bridge — but I haven’t gotten a chance to explore that yet.

You .. It was 26 BUT NVM

This is why I shouldn’t try and read Mandarin and English at the same time.

对不起.

26: Talk about things you do when you’re sick.

Nothing special. If I can’t sleep it off, I usually play video games until my brain shuts down. The opposite of productive, basically.

5:Talk about the best birthday you’ve had.

One of the best was my 17th. You don’t get that story because reasons.

The next on the list is my 21st because I basically ignored 19 and 20 to save up for it. My mom and I went to Las Vegas for three days. I got to see Zumanity by Cirque du Soleil, we saw knights joust, and I won eighty bucks off a slot machine so now I can say for the rest of my life I left Vegas with more money than I started, as long as I never gamble there again. She and I both got a much-needed break and super bonding time.

9:Talk about little things on your body that you like the most.

Mm, people compliment my jawline and eyebrows a lot, so I’ll go with those.

nonon-in-a-hummer ASKED: 14, 24, 38?

14: Talk about a vacation.

My last vacation was going down with my mom to her biological father’s house (I wasn’t raised with him as my grandfather due to remarriage etc.) down in Florida. I got to see a beach again and step into an ocean and even though it wasn’t California, it meant so much. I also read half a dozen queer history books back-to-back, which was more reading than I’d gotten to do in ages.

The crown on top of that was some good seafood and also the lack of internet let me rewatch a bunch of terrible yuri anime I’d downloaded ahead of time, to remind myself of when I was a baby teen and had no standards beyond girls kissing. It was hilarious.

24: Talk about something someone told you that meant a lot.

My Mandarin teacher sent an unsolicited email to me after the second week or so of class telling me that she thought I had a lot of potential and encouraged me to apply to the competitive language program here (I did, and got in). It was the first time I’d had a teacher step out of their way to say something like that in the fifteen or so years I’ve been active in school and considering how nervous I was that pursuing Chinese was going to be a dead end, it was just so well-timed and sweet and she couldn’t have had any idea how much it meant.

We said goodbye to her today because our course switches teachers halfway through the semester. I gave her a small gift, but it didn’t feel like enough.

38: Talk about songs that remind you of certain people.

"Clint Eastwood" by the Gorillaz for kikikikikikikikikikikiki. “Seventeen” by Marina & The Diamonds for my last long-term ex-girlfriend a couple years back, although probably not for the reasons anyone thinks.
