I had 97 cents in my account when my computer died.

The laptop had been overheating for about three weeks before it suddenly crashed and burned. The issue’s been narrowed down to motherboard and CPU issues, but I spent my entire last paycheck trying to fix it to no avail.

I’m having to put myself in some debt and circumstances I’m not entirely happy with to get a new laptop, but I should have it by Tuesday, hopefully. I’ve managed to borrow one for about twenty minutes tonight and I wanted to put this note up.

My laptop is my connection to the world. I’m in an unfamiliar state with no friends or family in easy reach. It’s my only source of entertainment since the only transportation available is our work van and due to our housing being subsidized, I make about 80 cents an hour in actual money. Every day I was logging on to talk to my mother, to my sisters, and all of you.

You’re my social circle. I’ve talked to you on AIM, on Xbox Live, on the phone, and some of you have been to my house. Even if we only talk through reblogs, replies, and fanmails, I look forward to every message and post. When sachehund forwarded a message and told everyone what was going on, you extended your hands and helped me up.

A hundred and forty dollars got sent almost overnight, which is going to some necessities I’ve been going without and takes off a large chunk of the laptop I’m looking to get. It’s taking an insane amount of stress off my plate.

I’m incredibly humbled and I can’t thank all of you enough.

If anyone who donated wants fic or meta from me when I’m online again, just say the word. I’d be happy to work in Photoshop once it’s reinstalled too, although sadly my screencap collection is currently lost to the old laptop. If you’d like me to pay the money back or pay it forward to a charity of your choice, I’m willing to do that as well, but it will be slower since I’ll have to portion it out of each paycheck. Please don’t be shy when it comes to asking. You’re helping me out of a real crunch point.
