The Encyclopedia of Pleasure, 2001. Embroidered sculpture by Ghada Amer.
This art installation is one of the few publicly existing copies of the medieval Arabic Jawami’ al-ladhdha (Encyclopedia of Pleasure) outside the Middle East. Only a single copy of the original book translated in English belongs to the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. It contains treatises on heterosexual and homosexual relations, with a noted focus on female desire.
